PROJECT IRAN

June 2023

Highlights: Our Iran project director Zarah is so passionate for this cause. Donating to Iran was a challenge. Our Project director who is Iranian and she lives in Germany. She was able to transfer funds through internal friends. We were able to send 600$ to buy school bags and books.

Challenges: We learnt that banks , Master card, Visa all don't work due to current active sanctions of US on Iran. We do not have permission to photograph the school or children. If we are able to get the permissions,

we will share the pictures shortly.

Lessons learned: Identify the financial processes in a countrybefore undertaking a project for long term scalability. As a team , we may stop Iran initiative due to challenges with money transfers.

PROJECT TURKEY

PROJECT TURKIYE (Bursa, Turkey)

July 2023

Riya Erasani visited Turkey as part of NSLI-Y study abroad to learn Turkish. She used this opportunity to fundraise , purchase books and visit a village in Bursa, Turkey. Global girls donated 120 books to the oldest school in Bursa

Highlights: While we were walking in a remote village carrying these books, We found few girls who loved our books, and then little boys ran to us and asked for books too. Riya started wondering if our purpose is to just to stick to girls for our organization as part of our mission, the boys were so eager to read, we could not say no. Well! Books are for everyone. How could we say no to education and equality? We got few more happy readers

Challenges: As a team, we strategized that we will only donate "English " books, but It didn't work. The book stores did not sell English books at all, and we had to take help from local friends to identify the popular educational genre for children.

Lessons Learned:  Language restrictions need to be identified ahead. Better research needs to occur before donating books on the most useful genres
